What usually goes wrong at A Level
A Level is a genuine step up, and the jump from O Level catches out students who were comfortable before. The content is deeper, the questions are less predictable, and papers increasingly ask students to apply something rather than reproduce it.
Two subjects account for most of the distress we see. A Level Maths punishes any weakness carried over from Additional Maths, and it compounds quickly across P1 and P3. A Level Computer Science has a programming component that defeats students who have revised theory thoroughly and never written much code.
That second one is the specific reason this exists here. A student struggling with the programming paper is in a building full of people who program for a living — and they are learning it from someone who does it daily rather than from someone teaching it from the syllabus.
How sessions run
Diagnostic first
A short assessment to find whether the problem is current content, a carried-over gap, or exam technique. These need different responses and more hours alone fixes only one of them.
Small groups or one-to-one
Grouped by subject and paper, or individual where a student needs it. Groups are capped so questions can actually be asked.
Past papers under exam conditions
Timed papers marked against the real mark scheme and examiner reports, because A Level marks are lost on structure and method as often as on knowledge.
Honest progress reporting
Including when progress is not happening. With university applications attached to these grades, a parent needs to know early enough to act.
A Level tuition — questions
Do you teach the A Level Computer Science programming paper?
Yes, and it is the subject we are most confident about. It is taught by working software engineers, which matters because the paper rewards students who have genuinely written code rather than only studied it.
Can you help with university applications?
We teach the subjects. We are not an admissions consultancy and will not pretend to be one — but tutors will discuss what a given grade profile realistically supports, including for computing degrees.
We are mid-year and struggling. Is it too late?
Usually not, but the honest answer depends on the subject and how much is missing. The diagnostic exists for exactly this, and if we think the remaining time is not enough we will say so rather than take the fee.
Do you offer AS and A2 separately?
Yes. Most students come for specific papers rather than a whole subject, which is usually the efficient choice.
